Groton ― Friendly faces and rain greeted the Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Newport News (SSN 750) as it returned to the Naval Submarine Base in Groton Tuesday, January 3, 2023 following a six-month deployment.
The Newport News is commanded by Cmdr. Joseph Fontenot and has a crew of more than 130 sailors. It was commissioned in June of 1989 and is the third warship of it’s name.
