Mike Farrell isn’t so confident in Coach Prime’s ability to correct Buffs
Deion Sanders, Buffs emerge in the pursuit of five-star Miami commit Cormani McClain.
Sanders not having any Football Bowl Subdivision head coaching experience is a fair concern, but most would also agree that his recruiting abilities, football knowledge and personality are more than enough for him to manage. Simply put, Farrell’s take on Coach Prime was that if he couldn’t lead Jackson State to a perfect season with an extremely talented roster, it could be tough for him to lead Colorado to much success while it rebuilds the next couple of years.
Just because he lost to end his HBCU season at Jackson State is no reason to panic but I will say this — Deion had a roster much better than anyone else’s this season and he still didn’t finish the season right. So what happens in Colorado where it will take a couple of years to put together a roster with more talent than most of his scheduled opponents? Remember this is a 1-11 football team. If Deion can’t do it with the deck stacked for him how will he go better than 6-6 at best for two seasons in the PAC 12?.
Sanders was managing two programs simultaneously, and his Tigers still nearly knocked off a fellow Football Championship Subdivision beast.
Coach Prime’s overall success at Jackson State should be plenty of evidence that he’s capable of leading a rebuild. Yes, it will be interesting to see how he overcomes likely losing a few games his first season in Boulder, but I wouldn’t say the task is too large for him.
