Miami in elite company with two five-star commits that rank inside the top ten – 247Sports
Miami is adding elite talent on the recruiting trail via this 2023 recruiting class.
After the pledge of cornerback Cormani McClain on Thursday, the Hurricanes are one of eight programs that have multiple five-star prospects committed in the class.
The list of teams with multiple five-star prospects includes Alabama (5), Texas (3), Oklahoma (2), Miami (2), Clemson (2), Oregon (2), USC (2), and Texas A&M (2).
Only two programs feature commitments from multiple five-star prospects that rank inside the industry generated 247Sports Composite’s top ten: Miami and USC.
The Hurricanes feature commitments from five-star cornerback Cormani McClain, who ranks No. 2 overall in the country and five-star offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa, who ranks as the No. 6 overall player in the country.
The Trojans feature commitments from five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson and five-star receiver Zachariah Branch.
Landing multiple five-stars that rank inside the top ten is no easy feat.
Over the past four cycles, here is a list of the programs that landed multiple five-stars inside the top ten:
– 2022: Texas A&M (2)
– 2021: Ohio State (4), Alabama (3)
– 2020: Clemson (3), Ohio State (2)
– 2019: Alabama (3)
These are the programs that land the elite of the elite—and it shows on Saturdays.
Miami has never signed more than two five-star prospects in a single cycle during the 247Sports era (dating back to the 2011 cycle). Mario Cristobal and the UM staff has a chance to change that this cycle with the targets they are chasing down the stretch.
UM is in the mix for eight five-stars: ATH Nyckoles Harbor, WR Jurrion Dickey (Oregon commit), CB Desmond Ricks, OL Samson Okunlola, DE Damon Wilson, WR Brandon Inniss (Ohio State commit), WR Hykeem Williams (FSU commit), and DE Samuel M’Pemba.

Miami’s class currently ranks No. 8 overall in the 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings. If UM can close on other five-star prospects, the Hurricanes will challenge for a top five class at the end of the cycle.
This UM class features plenty of top talent with nine commits ranking inside the Top 150, according to the industry generated 247Sports Composite.
Miami is within striking distance of landing a top five class in the 2023 cycle.
And Cristobal is not done adding more elite talent to this UM class.
